Hernando County was named after the Spanish explorer, Hernando DeSoto. Pasco and Citrus County border Hernando and its county seat is Brooksville. Much like its historical beginning when Fort DeSoto served as a trading post and way center on the path to Tampa, Hernando County today has the largest Wal-Mart Distribution Center in the United States. Hernando County provides many outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, biking, golfing, canoeing and more.
