Homosassa is home to the wildlife park and rehabilitation center called Homosassa Springs and Wildlife Park. At this park, there are manatees who roam the warm waters of the Homosassa River, a hippopotamus name Lucifer, snorkeling adventures, kayaking, and more. Homosassa has only about 2,200 residents within its borders. This town has kept its nature reserve feel while being more of a retirement area for seniors, while the areas to the south and east of Homosassa thrive on a younger residential population. Homosassa is skirted on the eastern edge by US Highway 19.
