About Liberty County
Liberty County, named for the American ideal of Liberty, is one of the largest counties in land mass in Florida (with 843 square miles), but it is the smallest county in population. This southern end of Liberty County is covered by the Apalachicola National Park and Tate’s Hell State Forest. The eastern boundary of Liberty County is the Oklockonee River and the western is the Apalachicola River. Liberty County's northern border is about 20 minutes from the Florida-Alabama-Georgia border. The county seat of Liberty is the city of Bristol, home of the Liberty County High School Bulldogs. Bristol is the only incorporated municipality in Liberty. Liberty is a sportsman’s paradise. The forests and game lands that cover this county make for prime hunting, fishing, boating, camping, 4-wheeling, and hiking trips. State Road 12 and State Road 20 crisscross the county, liking Interstate 10 and US Highway with neighboring counties. Air travel can be achieved through Bay County International Airport in Panama City.
